Let's Get Dressed Up!

We're only thirteen days from our first competition, so now we not only need to be preparing and practcing pieces, but we also need to do some wardrobe planning. I'd like to schedule a Goodwill trip for next week for anyone interested; oral interp will pay for competition clothes! Likewise, if you or anyone in your family have any professional attire to donate to others, please bring it by my room. Here's a reminder on our aims and a link to the Monday meeting slides from this week (the video is posted on EdPuzzle, so please watch if you were not in attendance.)

Gestures and Movement and Intros... OH MY!

You've selected your piece, you've embarked on the journey into the forest, slashing overgrowth that's in your way and discovering gems you didn't know existed. Analyzing literature and planning vocal changes to highlight what you find is one of my FAVORITE parts of oral interp. I've rarely seen a performer with true "talent" for interp, but I've seen plenty willing to roll up their sleeves and put in countless hours of intentional preparation and practice.

Everyone seems to be wanting to write intros this week, but I'm hoping you'll hold off just a little longer. Really get to know your literature. Figure out what you want your audience to gain from this experience. Yes, intros are a place for us to see you, the performer, so personal anecdotes are fine, but I'm more interested in a road map. Tell me how to feel, so when you show me the gems I have the reaction you want. And, when you're all done, I'm walking away from a round with yours being the only performance in my head because you've made it something personal for me.

Need help knowing what to do next? STRONGLY consider following THIS PLAN. Think you're actually ready to write an intro? Fine, here's some help

The Interp Category Quiz!

Still not sure which category to pursue? Just like taking personality quizzes? There is no hard data backing this one up, but it was 100% accurate for freshman Caelyn this afternoon! The poetry category is now one stronger! She's building a collection centered around teenagers finding and using their voices, and she's already found some sunning selections. Stay tuned for more on the development of her poetry program! (Thanks, Chase, for finding the link again...)

2nd Monday Meeting!

For those of you not in attendance, the meeting video has been uploaded to edpuzzle. If you are new to using Edpuzzle for oral interp videos, you'll need to create an account and use the code: poesulo to login. Come see me for a 'mini goal' sheet ASAP!

For everyone, here is the link to the practice group sign up page. It will work best if you put your name down for any time you are available so I can group people together. Do this soon!

I have 15 goal sheets, so please get me your goals and I'll be in touch!  Make this a great week, and consider signing up for Homecoming homeroom concessions on Friday.
